Description: This 7 night tour is ideally suited for active people in good physical health, who can swim and have a sense of adventure with a need to feel close to nature. Sunday - Arrival in Horta - Faial and transfer by road & boat to accommodation in the town of Lajes, on the island of Pico. The basic, clean family run Pension/Lodge Talassa or similar, is centrally located in the town of Lajes, within 2 minutes distance from the harbour. All rooms have a private bathroom and most have sea view: Whale Watching: there are five, 3 hour daily trips, subject to weather conditions. Rigid hull inflatables are used, which allow safe and fast access to the whales including dolphins. The boat size does not disturb the mammals. Using the original lookout system called ‘Viga’, a surveyor observes the sea, with the help of binoculars, looking out for cetacean. The Sperm Whales, the largest and most numerous in these waters, the other toothed whales frequently sighted are the Northern Bottlenose, Pilot Whales, Orcas and Sowerby’s Beaked Whales. The regulary sighted dolphins are the Common Atlantic Bottlenose, Risso, Atlantic Spotted and Striped Dolphins.
